FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What parents usually ask before the first lesson.

We specialise in children from age 3 up to 18. Kids follow a playful, age-appropriate approach with songs, games, and visual materials. Teens work in a more structured way with real conversations and relevant topics. All lessons are adapted to the child's level and personality.

Our lessons here are made for children and teens, ages 3 to 18. For adult learners we run a separate school, Beijing Duck Chinese, with courses built around adult goals like work, travel, and everyday conversation. Take a look at beijingduckchinese.com.

No. Complete beginners are welcome from age 3. Beginner lessons start with the very first words.

Lessons are taught mainly in English and Chinese (Mandarin). For younger children, a little Dutch can be used as a support language where helpful. Our teachers are skilled at using pictures, gestures, songs, and games to make things clear, even for the youngest learners.

Almost all lessons are online via Zoom, so your child can join from anywhere. When our teachers are in the Netherlands, we also teach in person in Amsterdam, at home or at a location. Send us a message to check dates.

Most children use their first words and phrases within a few lessons. Simple sentences usually follow after a few months of weekly lessons. How fast it goes depends on age and on how much your child practises between lessons.

Choose your lesson type, duration and package on our booking page, then pay securely online. You'll receive a booking confirmation and invoice by email straight away. We'll confirm your preferred time slot within 24 hours and send a login link for the student portal.

A device with a camera and a stable internet connection. We use Zoom for online lessons. No textbooks are required to start, Marina provides all the materials your child needs.

Absolutely. You can book a single lesson at any time to see if it's the right fit for your child. There's no obligation to book a package straight away.
